Algimantas Aleksandravičius Photographs NINE FLOORS

Photographs of one of the most famous Lithuanian photographer Algimantas Aleksandravičius. The book is called "Nine Floors" and is a collection of the most outstanding works by the author created over 15 years: portraits of famous Lithuanian cultural and art individuals, Nobel prize laureates, public figures, as well as photographs of nudes, body-builders, prison imagery, a series "Madhouse", etc.

…Dante's nine circles of Hell would be imagined differently today. Perhaps they would be moved to the spheres that are closer to our experience, for instance, to a simple block of apartments, where an artist and a madman, a Nobel Prize winner and a model, a priest and a criminal are forced to live next to each other. It seems, the co-existence of oppositions is the reality that makes everybody equal. It also is contemporary hell, located not somewhere underground but in the human soul. Algimantas Aleksandravičius has been known as a portrait photographer of famous people. In the collection of photographs "Nine Floors" he presents a probe into the multifaceted and tension filled contemporary life...

"This is like my monograph" - A. Aleksandravičius said about his sixth album. "I have named it "Nine Floors" because the disabled, the criminals and professors can live in one staircase. That's why I have included all of them in this album".

On December 30, 2002, A. Aleksandravičius was presented with a premium of the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture in the nomination for "the most significant and striking publicistic production on culture themes" for the photographs album "Nine Floors".

In 2003 A. Aleksandravicius was presented with a prize in "Fuji Euro Press" - one of the most prestigious European press photography contest. This prize won in portrait category is of great importance for the whole Lithuanian photography.

In total the album contains about 220 photos. The book is of 252 pages, hardcover.
