Šiluva is known for the first wide known apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Europe. The apparition is believed to have taken place in 1608 or 1612. This place is considered to be of high importance to many religious people. The Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in the XVIII century and to this day people pray in it and express their love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. The image of the Blessed Virgin Mary was painted in the XVII century. The prototype of this image is the icon Santa Maria della Neve in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome.

The Indulgenced Feast begins on September 8th with pilgrims arriving and each day of the feast is dedicated to separate group of people, such as the military, families, the sick and other. The Marian Day is the 13th day of each month and during this day special prayers are devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
