Christmas is the time when even the biggest scrooge on earth opens his heart to love and generosity. Most people associate Christmas with presents and there is nothing wrong with that, because the presents we leave under the Christmas tree only express the love we have in our hearts.

Christmas in Lithuania is just as festive as anywhere in the world, only to us Christmas evening is more important than Christmas day. All family members have Christmas supper together. 12 different dishes are prepared and according to traditions, one has to try every dish on the table. There are various traditional games, for example girls draw straws from under the tablecloth. The girl who gets the shortest straw is predicted to be married in the upcoming year. Of course, every family creates their own little Christmas and perform the rituals that they still remember or those that their grandparents have taught them. On Christmas morning families go to the church and visit their relatives afterwards. In our modern society many of the old traditions are being forgotten but the spirit of Christmas is without any doubt still alive.
